Species of the fungus Nectria and their conidial states are plant pathogens or are saprophytes on a wide variety of substrates. They have brightly colored, stromatic or nonstromatic perithecia, unitunicate asci and bicellular ascospores. This genus is cosmopolitan but exhibits its greatest numbers and diversity at tropical latitudes. The volume - a treatment of those species of Nectria formerly placed in subgenus Hyphonectria - includes descriptions, keys, line drawings, and information on species habitats.
