The pyrenomycetes described by J. B. Ellis. Mem. New York Bot. Gard. 79: 1-137. The listing that makes up the bulk of the present study contains nearly 1,500 entries, including 5 generic names, either described by Ellis, often with colleagues, or transferred by him from earlier generic dispositions. Approximately two-thirds of the taxa have been studied by subsequent workers. The number of names is nearly equally divided between accepted species, often with a change to modem genera, and names that are redisposed in synonymy with earlier names. Some taxa are doubtful or are assigned to genus only. The remaining taxa have not yet been investigated or have an uncertain disposition. Nomina nuda are listed separately in more than 150 entries. A listing of substrates and an index to generic names are also provided.
