Members of the Amauroderma are wood-rotters found on decayed branches and trunks, both standing and fallen and on roots of living or decayed trees, sometimes appearing as if emerged from the ground. In the latter case, the mycelium of the basidiocarp is found attached to a branched system of fine roots. This treatment of Amauroderma includes keys, descriptions, distribution information, and photographs.
