Lantana is native to Central and South America and is a popular ornamental garden plant; however, it has become invasive due to its habit of forming dense thickets that dominate native plants. They are grown for their fragrant, multicolored flower clusters which attract butterflies and change color as they mature. In southern India, lantana is grown as a bamboo substitute.
