Abstract
Horticultural interest in finding a treatment for cycad aulacaspis scale (CAS), Aulacaspis yasumatsui Takagi, has been increasing since the introduction of the pest to Miami, Florida in 1996. Coffee grounds have been used as a treatment, but few controlled tests have been conducted to verify its effectiveness. This review briefly discusses the threat the insect poses to cycads, the potential of coffee as an insecticide, and a review of tests conducted on coffee treatment of A. yasumatsui.
