The article examines the conservation status of South African cycads and the threats posed to their natural habitats, the function of the Pollen Bank to ensure pollination of all mature plants in cultivation and the technique of hand pollination are discussed. New advances in the cultivation of artificially produced cycad seedlings are also discussed.
