Moore in America
Monumental Sculpture at The New York Botanical Garden
Drawing his inspiration from nature, Henry Moore intended for his large-scale sculpture to be placed in landscapes where it could be viewed from every angle against the constantly changing backdrop of Earth and sky.
Moore in America: Monumental Sculpture at The New York Botanical Garden is the largest outdoor exhibition of Moore’s work ever presented in a single venue in the United States. The fascinating installation of the sculpture and its spectacular beauty in situ are captured in the glorious color photographs of this book, which presents the entire collection of 20 major pieces with complete descriptions.
Anita Feldman, Curator of The Henry Moore Foundation, has contributed an essay to the book that discusses how and why The New York Botanical Garden is the perfect site for Henry Moore’s work. In his foreword, Todd Forrest, Vice President for Horticulture and Living Collections at the Botanical Garden, describes the positioning of the pieces in select locations throughout the Garden. The book also includes archival images of Moore at work, a chronology of his life, and a bibliography.
